The Worship Ministries

"to worship God and proclaim Christ"

The Chancel (Altar) Guild: A dedicated group of women and men who prepare the sanctuary for all services. They also arrange delivery of altar flowers to shut-ins each Sunday as well as delivery of Easter lilies and Christmas poinsettias. The Guild also co-ordinates an annual Church "spring cleaning".

The Servers Guild: This group assists in worship by carrying candles, incense and the cross, as well as assisting with the preparation of bread and wine at communion. Servers range in age from 12 to maturity. Servers are organized and trained by a member of the congregation to serve at Sunday services throughout the year, as well as at special services including some weddings and funerals.

The "Open Door Program" Volunteers: A group of volunteers, in teams of two parishioners, open the church on weekdays during the warmer months from 11:30 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. and welcome all comers.

Intercessors: A representative group of our congregation who prepare and lead the prayers of the people at the Sunday services.

Lay Administrators: These people have been chosen from the congregation for their maturity of faith to administer the chalice at Holy Communion. The Lay Administrators are assisted by a lay reader at each service.

The Sides People: Welcome worshippers to the church at each Sunday service, act as ushers, collect the offering and assist communicants at the chancel steps as well as any with disabilities. This group of volunteers represents a wide cross section of our parish family.

St George’s Choir: Our choir is stellar! The choir, of approximately thirty members leads the congregation at 10:00 Sunday services and all special services throughout the year. The choir practices on Thursday evenings from September to June. The choir also hosts social evenings in support of various parish projects.

St George’s Music Team: This team leads the music at the beginning of the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist each Sunday singing a variety of contemporary music.

St George’s Chimers Guild: The St. George’s chimers play the Carswell Memorial Chimes situated in the bell tower above the southwest entrance. In addition to regular playing at the Sunday services the bells ring at weddings, and weekdays at noon. The chimes also play for Heritage Ontario day, Remembrance Day, the City of Oshawa tree lighting, and a Carol sing-a-long prior to the annual Santa Claus parade.
